yeah, just grab it behind the head and then when out of the water take it at the gill. the mouth will open for easy unhooking. when held on the gill, the pike will stay easy.

It is a bit of a struggle to get the hang of it. but when done a couple of times it will be a routine thing.

Well, got a few more Rapala Victims today!!! I decided not to bring my net this time, that way I had no choice but to land my pickerel by hand. So of course the first bass I catch came off as I tried to swing him into the boat. He was small anyway though, so I probably wouldn't have used the net even if I had it with me. My last cast of the day finally provided me with a pickerel to try my new technique on, and I failed miserably. After my third time dropping him back into water, I just gave up and unhooked it while it was still in the water. It's gonna take a little practice, but at least the fish was no worse for wear!!! 29. I have to ask: I noticed in tour pics of the fish you've caught that you use a swivel on your snap links. Does it not hamper the lure's action?

Nigel Yea, I switch lures up so often I usually use a swivel. I won't use one on suspending lures, but on a floating lure I don't think it hampers the action too much. I probably miss out on a fish or two because of it, but I really don't want to tie 37 knots every time I fish.

I took my nephew out with me this weekend and he outfished me both days!! I recently bought an F-9 in Shiner from Jason, and I now need to buy another. Not because I lost it though, because my nephew absolutely loves it!!! He caught his very first pickerel on it, as well as a small bass on Saturday. Then yesterday he caught his biggest bass ever!! He was excited as could be holding that thing!! I also managed to cross 2 more lures off my list. The pickerel I caught was really deformed at the mouth. Seemed like there was a large section of extra skin on the right side of it's mouth. It's hard to see in the picture though. 41. J-9 Gold 42. F-9 Shiner

I always use a swivel no matter what I fish for, mainly because I try multiple lures everytime I go fishing. I havent noticed it affecting the lures action but I suppose it probly does

I had my skitter pops working yesterday!! This bet may not last till summer!! Ended up catching 6 bass, and lost 3 more, all of the same J11. One of the smaller bass engulfed my SP-7 and had the back hook way down in his throat. That's why I always carry a pair of cutters. I had to cut off the barbed end then pull the rest through. He bled a little, but seemed to be fine on his way back!! After nearly killing a few bass years ago, using this soft plastic they seemed to swallow every time(Yamamoto double tail hula grub), I will never go fishing without my hook cutters!! I have a few videos of fish taking poppers that I will put up later. It takes a little time with my crappy computer, but here are the pics!! 43. SSR-5 Holographic Blue Shiner 44. XR-8 Purple Gold 45. I hear you, but I sort of have a habit of doing that. I think I have broken the tip off of every rod I've ever had!!! And it's rubbing off because two of my nephews have done it too. My dad actually broke my first one, so I guess it's sort of a family tradition. It really is a bit foolish of me to carry around over $1000 in Rapala's in my tackle box, while using a $30 combo with a broken rod tip. I think foolish may be a family tradition too though. Here are my two more from today!! 49. SP-7 Purplescent Purple 50. SP-7 Pond Smelt

maybe your next rod should be an ugly stick, you will have to try to break the end off of those.
